Germany · Opportunity Card
Calculate your Opportunity Card using the official 2026 logic
This calculator separates the direct recognition route from the points route, checks the base requirements first, and only then counts points.
Based on official Make it in Germany rules and funding amounts verified on April 12, 2026.
Two routes
If your qualification is already recognised as equivalent in Germany, points are not the deciding factor. Otherwise you must meet the base requirements and then reach at least 6 points.
Direct route
Use this if your qualification is already recognised in Germany or you hold a German qualification.
Points route
Use this if you are applying through the score-based route with a recognised home qualification, minimum language and proof of funds.

Factors that add points
Do you already have a partial recognition notice or an official need for a qualification/licensing measure?
A partial recognition notice or the need for a qualification/licensing measure adds 4 points.
Is your academic degree in a shortage occupation?
Extra point mainly applies to certain academic degrees in health care, IT, engineering, teaching and other official shortage occupations.
How much qualified work experience can you prove after graduation?
Which age group do you belong to?
Have you already stayed legally in Germany for at least 6 months?
The stay must be legal and at least 6 months long. Short tourist visits normally do not help.
Does your spouse or partner also meet the Opportunity Card conditions?
FAQ
Does everyone need 6 points?
No. If your qualification is already recognised as equivalent in Germany, you can use the direct route and the points grid is not the deciding rule.
What is the minimum language threshold?
On the points route, the minimum is German A1 or English B2. Higher German levels can add more points.
How much money should I be able to prove in 2026?
The official 2026 reference published by Make it in Germany is EUR 1,091 net per month. Over 12 months that is about EUR 13,092 if you self-fund the full period.
Can I work with the Opportunity Card?
Yes. The job-search card allows secondary work up to 20 hours per week and short trial periods with potential employers.
